GENERIC NAME : Norepinephrine (as bitartrate) 1mg/1mL
INDICATION: Indicated for use as an emergency measure in the restoration of blood pressure in cases of acute hypotension
MECHANISM OF ACTION: Norepinephrine functions as a peripheral vasoconstrictor by acting on the alpha-adrenergic receptors. It is also an inotropic stimulator of the hearty and dilator of coronary arteries as a result of its activity at the beta-adrenergic receptors
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION:
Initial 2-3 mL/minute, maintenance 0.5-1 mL/minute.
From clinical trials, the mean dose of norepinephrine ranges from 0.2 to 1.3 mcg/kg/min with a maximum dosage of 3.3 mcg/kg/min. Norepinephrine should be diluted in 5 percent dextrose injection or 5 percent dextrose and sodium chloride injections. These dextrose containing fluids are protection against significant loss of potency due to oxidation. Administration in saline solution alone is not recommended
Administer as a diluted solution via a central venous catheter The infusion should be at a controlled rate using a syringe pump or an infusion pump or drip counter
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), tricyclic antidepressant (TCA), cyclopropane, halothane.
DOSAGE FORM: Concentrate solution for IV Infusion

Shelf life after dilution: 36 months. If not used immediately, in-use storage times and conditions prior to use are the responsibility of the user and would normally not be longer than 24 hours at 2 to 8°C.
