Class: Analgesics, Antipyretics & Musculoskeletal Preparations
Indications: Reduction of fever in adults and children (age ≥11 years old, or 33kgs and above); management of mild to moderate pain
(e.g., post-operative pain, musculoskeletal pain, traumatic pain); management of moderate to severe pain with adjunctive opioid analgesics
Dosage: Adult 50 kg: 1 g; <50 kg: 15 mg/kg. Children <10 kg: 7.5 mg/kg; 10-50 kg: 15 mg/kg; >50 kg: 1 g. To be administered every 4-6 hrs.
Precautions: Renal or hepatic impairment; alcohol-dependent patients; G6PD deficiency. Pregnancy Risk Category B.
Side Effects: Nausea, allergic reactions, acute renal tubular necrosis, blood dyscrasias, liver damage.
Drug Interactions: Reduced absorption of cholestyramine w/in 1 hr of administration; accelerated absorption w/ metoclopramide; decreased effect w/ barbiturates, carbamazepine, hydantoins, rifampicin, & sulfinpyrazone; increased effect of warfarin.
